5 Morning Habits to Adopt this New Year

Let us begin this new year by adopting simple morning habits for a healthier and more productive lifestyle. New year comes with a lot of hopes and resolutions. These resolutions are essentially new habits that we want to develop or give up or new goals that we want to achieve. In this blog post I will share some simple morning habits that are easy to develop and 5 habits that you should give up to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Let us first talk about the habits we should follow in the morning to feel more productive and organized-

1.Making  Your Bed

The first morning habit is making your bed after waking up. This is something that takes the least effort and time and is easy to do. When you get out of bed in the morning, make your bed the way you like it to be when you go to sleep. Some people like to fold the blankets/quilts and put them away. I personally like to spread my quilt nicely on the bed, so that it is fold-free. You can do it the way you like it. This one thing makes your room neat and organized in less than 15 seconds.

2. Smile for Yourself

If you are alive, that is the biggest reason to smile. Stand in front of the mirror and give yourself a big smile. Think about other things that you have- a place to live and food to eat, you are lucky, be grateful for that. Think about more things that make your life better, this will help you to develop a positive attitude for life. This practice will help you to rewire your brain to develop a positive outlook for life.

3. Drink a Glass of Water

Water is the best drink! Drink a glass of water, empty stomach in the morning and wait for 30-35 minutes before eating or drinking anything else. This will detoxify your body, by cleansing the toxins from your gut and hydrate the cells in your body. This also helps to boost brain function. If you suffer from acidity, drink water before brushing your teeth. In the morning, the saliva has an alkaline nature. When it goes to the stomach with water it helps to neutralize the excess acid in the stomach.

To maximize the benefits, try eating small turmeric balls with water. Turmeric has anti-oxidants and it has anti-inflammatory properties, thus  rejuvenating the body.

4.Eat Fruits in Breakfast

Fruits have vitamins and micronutrients that we need to keep ourselves healthy. Try To incorporate a lot of fruits of different colors in your morning diet, to help your body to repair Fruits of different colors that have different nutrients that our bodies need to carry out different functions. When fruits are eaten before other food items of the meal, the nutrients are absorbed in a better way. Fruits are also rich in fiber and have water, which helps to improve digestion.

5. Switch your Cup of Coffee with a Non Caffeinated Drink

Tea and coffee have become a to-go drink for so many people. Although these make you feel energetic immediately after having them, when the effect of caffeine subsides, it makes you feel more tired. Also, long term use of tea and coffee is also not recommended to people suffering with hypertension. It is really hard to cut down the caffeine because it might cause headaches in the beginning that can last up to 9 days after giving up the tea/coffee. In the morning, your body is already energetic and does not need caffeine, so it will make giving up coffee easier.

To avoid this start with the morning cup, by replacing it with other healthier options  like sukku coffee. Another option is using decaffeinated tea, the caffeine content in these are 2-5% which is significantly lower than the regular tea/coffee.

I personally follow all these little habits and these have surely helped me to change to a healthier and more energetic. The only thing is, when you start doing these habits, your body and brain need some time to adjust (2-3 weeks ) to the changes before you start seeing any positive impacts. So be patient and let these habits make a change to your life!

I wish you all a very healthy, happy and prosperous year!
